Über das Projekt

Das Buch beschäftigt sich im Rahmen meiner Diplomarbeit mit dem bisher wenig bekannten Medium Artzine, und Magazinen in Klein- und Kleinstauflage, bis 1500 Exemplaren. Wichtig dabei ist auch, dass kein Riesenverlag dahinter steht, und die Publikationen nicht in z.B. Bahnhofsbuchhandlungen zu finden sind.

Ich suche nach der Motivation und versuche, dem Drang, etwas unkommerzielles zu erschaffen, nachzugehen (da die Publikationen meistens gerade noch die Druck- bzw. Herstellungskosten einspielen), Vertriebsmöglichkeiten zu erforschen und diese große, aber wenig bekannte Szene vorzustellen. Ich werde auch die Zines und Kleinstmagazine katalogisieren und mit diesem Phänomen verbundene Festivals, nichtkommerzielle Vertriebe und Läden, in denen man Zines erwerben kann, miteinbeziehen. Die Publikation soll also ein Kompedium werden.

Das Buch wäre das erste dieser Art; nach intensiven Recherchen konnte ich keine Publikation finden, die sich, trotz des großen Einflußes der Artzines und Kleinstmagazine auf herkömmliche Publikationen, nur annähernd ausreichend mit dem Thema beschäftigt.

Wenn möglich, bitte bei Magazinmeldung auch ein Cover (das aktuellste) oder mehrere als hochauflösende Datei (300 dpi) mailen. Diese werden begleitend zum Text im Katalogteil veröffentlicht. Die Artzines/Magazine sollten sich mit einem oder mehreren der folgenden Themen etwas zu tun haben: Zeichnung, Fotografie, Graffiti/Street Art, Malerei, Comics, Grafik-Design, Subkultur, Pop-Kultur.

Wichtig: bitte auch dann ein Magazin melden, wenn dieses nicht mehr existieren sollte!

About the project

I am working right now on a book about Artzines and independent magazines with small circulation, up to 1500 copies.

The book will feature, of course, Magazines and Artzines, but also Zine festivals, online and real shops where to buy such magazines, ways of distribution, and so on. And I want to talk to the makers, to research about the motivation of doing these (mostly) non-commercial magazines. There will also exist a kind of catalogue/list with all magazines and Artzines I know about, including a cover picture and short information.

So it will be a real compendium, and as there is no similar publication about Artzines and small circulation magazines, I think it is time and a great chance to introduce this still underground medium to the wide public.
